Merrill is a Registered Forester in Alabama and Tennessee and a member of the Forestry Association in both states. He earned a bachelor's and master's degree in Forest Management and Forest Economics from Auburn University. His career has been spent managing hundreds of thousands of acres in the Tennessee Valley area for industrial timberland owners and investors.
